The name, Heartwood Cabin, was chosen to represent the significance of time, the wisdom of aging, and the miraculous circle of life. If you have ever looked at the cross section of an established tree, you will notice a series of concentric circles in the trunk. These layers of sapwood and heartwood tell the life story of a tree, documenting periods of resource scarcity and of abundance.

The heartwood is the darker, central cylinder of the trunk. Heartwood begins as sapwood in the stem of a tree and is transformed to heartwood as the tree ages and new layers of sapwood are added to the circumference. The heartwood provides stability and structure to the trunk, while the sapwood transports water and nutrients from the roots to the crown of the tree. Together the sapwood and the heartwood work together to support the tree to grow and thrive. There’s no growth without the sapwood and no structure without the heartwood. Heartwood represents the past and sapwood the future. There’s not one without the other, but together they have a story to tell. As we all do.

Our Story

With abundant waterfalls, breathtaking lookouts and spectacular rainforest walks, Springbrook has a very special place in our hearts. Our family has been coming here to Springbrook for over 45 years, winding our way up the mountain on a Sunday morning to arrive at the Goomoolahra Falls in time to watch the sunrise over the Gold Coast. We’d share a hearty breakfast prepared over an open fire and walk together through the magnificent World Heritage Listed Springbrook Rainforest, beneath waterfalls and by fresh water swimming holes. The Springbrook Rainforest weaves magic into your soul and once you’ve been touched by it, the rainforest continues to call you home. Over the years we have shared our love for Springbrook with our own families, our children and grandchildren. Now we have the pleasure of sharing the magic of Springbrook with you, at Heartwood Cabin
